Here's Rev. Richard "Stonefingers" Johnson
with
his National Steel Guitar (also called a "dobro"), a family heirloom. It's one of the rare and unusual guitars he
uses when he shares the love of Jesus through music and testimony. |
|
|
“Stonefingers”
is a picker and a grinner, a soloist who’s been writing songs and
playing the guitar, Dobro, and lap steel for four decades. His
style has been described as "swamp music,” a unique and original blend
of Christian blues, folk, and gospel. It’s a very accessible and personal musical
expression of God’s love.

Richard's concert ministry gets
the "seal of approval" from almost everyone, regardless of age, sex, race,
cultural background, geographic location, economic persuasion, spiritual
condition, denomination, or personal musical preferences. His wry sense of
humor and informal manner put people at ease, and helps prepare hearts to
receive something good from the Lord. He is known and loved in prisons,
churches, and all the other places he ministers throughout the United States
and Canada.

|
|
People
who might not otherwise darken the door of a church or a prison chapel are
often willing to come out to hear "Stonefingers" play on his
collection of unusual instruments. Two of his guitars are of particular
interest. The first, a National Duolian Steel Guitar made sometime
around 1930, has been in his family since World War II.
|
|

Another
rare guitar is
his lap steel, a 1934 Rickenbacher Electro nicknamed the “Frying
Pan,” one of the few surviving examples of the first electric guitar
ever made. |

Richard’s
concerts are more than merely entertaining; they’re intimate and
potentially life changing. The message of salvation, healing, life, and
freedom in Jesus Christ is the focus of every concert. The Holy Spirit
uses his musical gift, his testimony, and the things the Lord puts on his
heart to share with his listeners to change people's lives. Over the
years, thousands of people have come to know the Lord Jesus Christ as
Lord, Savior, and Friend through his ministry. |
|

Many
prison chaplains, pastors, and other Christian leaders have commented on
Richard’s God-given ability to reach the seemingly unreachable. His
ability to speak the truth in love from his heart, both in the universal
language of music and in simple, everyday English, makes his a powerful
and fruitful ministry...and he's fun, too!
